Bud Mekelburg gets top NACD Award
Milton “Bud” Mekelburg - Colorado
This year marks Bud Mekelburg’s 50th year of conservation district work. His journey began in 1958 as the youngest founding member and first president of the Yuma Soil Conservation District (CD). Next, he carried his work to the state level, and later, Bud set his sights on conservation at the national level. He began as an NACD board member, stepping up to serve as NACD Vice President in 1980 and NACD President from 1982 – 1984. After his term in office, Bud continued his conservation efforts overseas and on Arizona Indian reservations. When his travels ended, Bud returned to his farming and ranching operation and continues to make a difference in conservation within his local community as a member of his local district board.
